You can find the Choate Girls’ rowing team off-campus on the beautiful Quonnipaug Lake. Comprised of 30 plus rowers, the program places a high priority on building an effective and race-ready fleet of coxed fours while also supporting each girl’s growing identity as a student-athlete. As a result, the team has consistently found success competing at NEIRAs, Founder’s Day Regatta and Lower Boat Championships, often coming home with hardware and producing competitive results against top NEIRA programs.

In practices on and off the water, athletes focus on building both their physical and mental resilience. With a mix of technical drills and endurance training, athletes frequently find themselves reaching new personal records throughout the season. In addition to rigorous training, the Choate Girl’s Rowing team brings a spirit of play to their work as they can be found completing in relays together during dryland training and bonding on the bus to and from the boathouse.

In addition to supporting the rowing career of athletes who started prior to their time at Choate, the coaching staff develops those who are new to the sport, often yielding four-year rowing athletes who go on to compete in college in Division I and Division III programs. With a focus on working with enthusiastic, kind and driven individuals, the coaching staff encourages all interested folks to come out and try their hand at hopping on the erg machine and taking some strokes on our beautiful lake!
