Grace McGee was named Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach in 2019 after working with the program since 2015.

Coach McGee is also the Director of Admission, and serves on several committees, while also being an adviser and lives on campus.

“Choate is a place where, as a community, we are committed to the pursuit of excellence without taking ourselves too seriously,” says Coach Mcgee. “Fittingly, Choate student-athletes put themselves in a growth-mindset and show grit and determination in sport while still having fun and enjoying the journey. This creates an environment on the field where risk-taking is encouraged, and both effort and outcome are celebrated.”

She holds a Level 2 Coaching Certification from USA Field Hockey, and recently competed in the NFHL National Adult Club Championship Tournament at University of Delaware.

Coach McGee also coaches field hockey in the USA Futures & Nexus Programs and at the local HTC Club Team. She has also coached soccer, swimming, and squash.

“Field Hockey as a sport has a long history at Choate and across the world,” Coach McGee says. “It is an active sport that requires players to be athletic, tactical, and collaborative. These features of field hockey create an exciting challenge for me as a coach to help players balance each aspect of the game as they achieve their goals, grow as athletes, and excel as a team.”

A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Coach McGee was captain of her team as a senior, was two-time MVP, three-time all-conference selection, two-time all-region selection, and earned NCAA scholar athlete recognition. She served as a Student-Athlete Mentor and on the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Upon graduation, W&L awarded her the Joseph R. Martin Prize for excellence in Fine Art and Athletics.
