Record-Breaking Attendance for Summer Programs '24

Choate successfully concluded its 109th summer program, marked by historic enrollment and a vibrant community of eager and engaged students, talented interns, and dedicated faculty.

Director of Summer Programs Susan Peel Farrell P ’12, ’14, ’15, ’20 shared, “Our 109th summer was another one for the record books with numerous memorable moments over the course of five weeks of living and learning together.”

Summer 2024 Highlights:

  • 783 students enrolled
  • 34 countries represented
  • 30 U.S. states and territories
  • 4 programs of varying lengths with over 100 courses across multiple disciplines in Academic Enrichment, Summer Music Festival, Visual Arts Lab, and Young Artist

The Health and Wellness Block

This summer also marked the second year of incorporating the Wellness Block into the weekly schedule for all students. Tiffany Rivera, Health & Wellness Facilitator, said, “The Health and Wellness Program provides our students with an opportunity to be more intentional about establishing and maintaining beneficial habits in all areas of life including health, fitness, mindfulness, mental health, and social well-being.” Topics included:

  •  Healthy vs. Unhealthy Habits
  •  Boundary Setting
  •  Bullying vs. Upstander Training
  •  Exploring and Living Personal Values
  •  Building Self-esteem and Self-efficacy

Summer Programs student Mariale Garcia Vargas offered this reflection. “My experience at Choate Summer Programs has given me the self-confidence to speak up. Every teacher made me feel like my thoughts were worth listening to, and l’m going home with not only so much knowledge, academic and personal, but also a renewed sense of self-worth."

Planning is already underway for Summer Programs 2025.
